Green Line Soccer is taking to the skies. Here's what that means for this week's schedule
Here's what you can expect from Green Line Soccer with regards to this week's five Spirit and United games.
As I've been saying like 1,000 times because I can't shut up about it, Green Line Soccer is getting on a plane to provide you the coverage you were hoping for.
Specifically, I'm off to Seattle and San Diego to cover the Washington Spirit's games against the Seattle Reign and San Diego Wave. I've never been to either city, so this is going to be fun on top of very informative and useful for you, the Green Line Soccer subscriber.
Again, thank you to everyone for supporting the site. I told myself this trip would only happen if the subscriptions were paying for it, and you folks cleared the bar very quickly. If you're a paying subscriber, you'll get anything that comes from interviews I secure while I'm out there first!
All that said, it's a busy week for the Spirit and United, and it's going to unsettle the normal schedule around these parts. Apologies to my United-focused subscribers, but the disruptions are going to impact three games. I'm hopeful that I can put together some away travel on the Black-and-Red side of things this year, but I might hold my fire until — dare I say it — the stretch run or the playoffs.
That's not even me offering you some false hope or extreme optimism, by the way. Per the outstanding Soccer Datavizer, United has a 66% chance of going to the postseason for the first time since 2019. I'm at least as surprised as you are!
Anyway, there's also a Spirit east coast trip that looks very doable for me this summer, with trips to North Carolina, Gotham, and Boston all in Amtrak range, and of course the playoffs (though based on how the season is going, I might not have to actually travel very far for at least one round).
Back to the subject at hand: In chronological order, here's what you can expect on Green Line Soccer for the five games the Spirit and United are playing this week:
May 9: D.C. United at Nashville SC
Assuming my flight goes off smoothly, I should be stepping off a jetway into SeaTac around the 75th minute of this game. As such, the gamer from this one will be delayed until the morning of May 10.
Ideally, I can get to the hotel, get dinner, and get this one done before midnight PT, but — with all due respect to the night gremlins and goblins out there, you are absolutely my people — it'll probably be best if this is scheduled for first thing Sunday morning ET.
As for the analysis/reactions piece, that is a variable. I might be able to get it out for Monday morning ET, or it might wait until I'm in San Diego. I will do it, but I can't guarantee when it will arrive.
May 10: Washington Spirit at Seattle Reign
I'll be in the stadium (shout out to the Reign for sending the credential approval earlier than most teams), so expect the normal standard for a Spirit home game. That means a gamer at full time or as close to it as I can manage, and analysis/reactions the next day.
Given that I'll have mixed-zone quotes that maybe no one else has, this will take priority over the Nashville reactions piece.
May 13: D.C. United vs. Chicago Fire
I will very likely be busy during this game, so the gamer might we might be talking about another case of first thing May 14. There are variables in terms of the timing, but if I can do it earlier, I will.
Analysis and reactions will likely get done sometime on May 14, but might not come out until the morning of May 15.
May 15: Washington Spirit at San Diego Wave
Again, expect the norms of a Spirit home game. I'll be at Snapdragon Stadium, so the gamer will be close to full time. My flight home doesn't depart until Saturday afternoon ET, so the analysis/reactions might get out before I board...or they might be something I work on somewhere over Nevada or Colorado or wherever. If you don't see them by 3pm ET Saturday, assume you won't see them until Sunday morning.
May 16: D.C. United vs. St. Louis City SC
My flight is scheduled to land around the 60th minute of this game. Most likely, the gamer won't be out until Sunday, and the analysis/reactions will probably be a Monday production.
